Job overview
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Physiotherapist to join our multidisciplinary team as a Advanced Physiotherapist within the Integrated Community Stroke Team, covering the Furness and South Lakes area. The successful candidate will be able to provide outstanding, personalised and compassionate care to stroke survivors. You will provide clinical supervision to junior staff members to ensure best practice and support the ongoing development of the service.
The service covers both the acute and community setting providing evidence-based rehabilitation to those who have experienced a stroke. The service provides intensive and routine input to those who have goal-specific needs, across the geographical footprint of Morecambe Bay alongside the sister team based in Lancaster.
The service currently runs as a 6-day acute service, with the future aim of being a 7 day service across both acute and community.
Main duties of the job
You will be working alongside the MDT which includes a Advanced Occupational Therapist, Clinical Lead SLT and Team Lead to provide consistent leadership and drive change for quality improvement. The team is made up of Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, Speech and language therapists, Assistant practitioners and a Team administrator, all of whom are dedicated and passionate to provide outstanding care to stroke survivors. The successful applicant will also be passionate about Stroke and have significant experience working within Stroke and/or Neuro bringing with them a wealth of knowledge, experience, skills and behaviours suitable for the post.
The successful applicant will also have previously completed their core rotations and have experience of respiratory needs for example, in order to provide holistic care to those patients who may have complex and diverse needs.
The role when working across both acute and community pathways, is to support the assessment and treatment of stroke survivors, to assist with discharge planning, family/carer communication, attending daily/weekly MDTs, providing goal-led rehabilitation, delegation of work and overseeing the more complex patients, supporting the junior staff as required and liaison with the wider MDT.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person specification
Experience
Essential criteria
- BSc degree or post graduate diploma in Physiotherapy
- Registered with the HCPC
- Evidence of relevant post graduate training or relevant experience
- Educated to Master's degree level, on a master's programme or equivalent experience.
- Previous relevant experience at band 6 or 7
- Current knowledge and experience of patients with conditions relevant to the speciality
- Evidence of mentoring, assessing, teaching and developing staff
- Experience and ability to work as part of the multi-disciplinary staff
- Experience of audit
- Understanding of clinical governance
Desirable criteria
- Membership of appropriate specialist interest group
- Change management experience and ability to develop expert practice
