Job overview

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and committed Registered Nurses to our family here on Ward 9 and Coniston Suite at Furness General Hospital. 
 
Ward 9 is a busy medical ward with specialities in gastroenterology and cardiology. The ward also incorporates the newly 11 bedded refurbished inpatient oncology/haematology suite. We are Gold Standard accredited ward for providing high standards of care for our end of life patients and take pride in our designated maple suite.

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.

Main duties of the job

Provide effective leadership and support to all grades of staff.  

Ensure the ward is clean and provides a safe environment for patients and staff.

To deputise for the Ward Manager when required.

Participate in directorate/management responsibilities. 

 

 

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals -Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 1st level registered nurse
  • Post registration qualification in relevant area that has enhanced clinical practice
  • Mentoring and assessing qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration management/leadership qualification or willingness to undertake a post registration certificate in management/leadership

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent management/leadership experience relevant to clinical speciality
  • Evidence of clinical competence and credibility in clinical speciality
  • Evidence of teaching, mentoring and developing staff
  • Understanding of setting and monitoring of standards
  • Able to assume a lead clinical role as appropriate
  • Ability to work as part of the multidisciplinary clinical team
Desirable criteria
  • NIHSS training

Skills, Ability and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable basic and advanced clinical skills e.g: Peripheral venous cannulation, Physical assessment skills, Basic life support/ILS/Alert, Venepuncture, ECG
  • Demonstrate ability to make clinical decisions and to develop others in this area
  • Ability to manage the care of a wide variety of patient conditions
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its application
  • In depth knowledge of the role of research and development
  • Ability to prioritise and demonstrate effective time management and organisational skills
