Neonatal Services at UHMBT are provided from both Furness General Hospital and Royal Lancaster Infirmary sites and are part of the North West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network.

Main duties of the job

It is essential that the successful candidate can be professional, diplomatic and caring as you will be challenged with the varied demands of the Trust, which at times can be unpredictable. You must have the ability to prioritise your working day under pressure, whilst ensuring the values and behaviours of the Trust are upheld. Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Children’s Nurse, Registered Nurse, or Registered Midwife
  • Qualification in Speciality
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
Desirable criteria
  • First level degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience at senior staff nurse level within neonatal nursing
  • Evidence of clinical competence in neonatal nursing skills
  • Evidence of ability to assume a lead clinical role
  • Understanding of the setting and monitoring of standards
  • Evidence of teaching and developing staff
Desirable criteria
  • Recent leadership development

Skills Ability and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable clinical skills in neonatal nursing
  • Ability to make clinical decisions
  • Ability to manage the care of neonatal conditions including intensive, high dependency and special care, attendance at high risk deliveries and transfer
  • Neonatal Life Support Skills
  • Neonatal IV therapy, venepuncture and cannulation skills
  • Demonstrate ability to obtain and evaluate information to aid decision making and to develop others in this area
  • Demonstrate people management
  • IT skills including word processing, email, and internet
