Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Locum Consultant in Haematology to join our friendly and enthusiastic team at the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) as maternity leave cover. An enthusiastic and forward-thinking consultant will work within a supportive team covering North Cumbria.

Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons to work full time will be eligible to be considered for this post on a part-time basis. Visits can be arranged for candidates and their families in order to appreciate the quality of life our Hospitals and the surrounding area can offer. Applicants must hold valid registration with the GMC.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at the Cumberland Infirmary but working as an integrated service covering West Cumberland Hospital. The successful applicant will complement our team of existing haematologists and nurses, together providing level 2A Clinical Haematology care for NCIC patients.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration (and with a current licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • FRCPath (Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists) or equivalent.
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • CCT or CESR

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Clinical training and experience in the relevant specialty, equivalent to that required to gain entry to the UK Certificate of Completed Training (CCT) in Pathology.
  • High standard of clinical skill and expertise in Pathology
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
Desirable criteria
  • APLS
  • ATLS
  • Inter-hospital transfer training

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Experience of, and commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
  • Experience of supervising SpR’s
  • Teaching of non-medical health professionals.
  • Educational Qualification

Research, Audit and Clinical Governance

Essential criteria
  • Experience of audit management
Desirable criteria
  • Publications in referred journals
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate research

Management and Administrative

  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of Clinical Haematology service.
