Job overview

This is an exciting and challenging position,  critical in  driving a compassionate approach and organisational culture in the way we care for staff who experience difficulties at work, whether in respect of their conduct, performance, interpersonal relationships (including bullying and harassment) sickness absence or other concerns. A core element of the role will be to ensure that our policies and practices are compliant and in line with best practice.


At the heart of this is embedding our values in how we approach difficult 
people issues. This includes a people focused approach and a regard to restorative outcomes, supporting Collaboratives through a business partnering model, and leading a  team of advisors 

The People Services Assistant Business Partner provides complex advice and guidance and uses a coaching approach to support day to day people issues, and in particular on matters relating to management queries and case work. They will provide complex advice on applying and interpreting policies and procedures & support projects in the reduction of sickness absence across the Trust, identifying innovation and forward-thinking solutions to embed cultural and sustained change.

Main duties of the job

To support the People Services Business Partner in the development of a positive approach to people management issues by building strong and effective partnerships between HR colleagues, managers, clinicians, staff and their representatives

To provide advice, coach and assist managers in complex people management cases, working in partnership with managers, to support improved performance.

 

To provide consistent complex and sensitive advice and recommendations in relation to the management of wide ranging human resources cases.

 

  Support managers in decision making around potential breaches of the people management policy / procedure.

 

Arrange and coordinate case management meetings, including case conferences, disciplinary / conduct hearings, grievances and investigation meetings.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience.
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent experience
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • An understanding of the national NHS agenda and the Human Resources contribution.
  • A knowledge of current employment law and HR good practice, and the ability to translate into practice, including around attendance management.
  • An understanding of the principles of change management and contribution of the HR function to transformational change.
  • Demonstrate through CPD, employment law updates and various other training courses an up to date knowledge of HR practices & change management.
  • Has gained HR operational experience of dealing with HR issues across all aspects of employment relations practice including disciplinaries, grievances, harassment complaints, and attendance absence and performance capability.
  • Experience of trade union partnership working.
  • Developing and maintaining positive partnerships with trade union representatives and senior managers.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Medical Staffing employment issues.
  • Knowledge of all NHS employment terms and conditions.
  • Previous experience of working in an NHS setting
