Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to lead the Outpatient Reception and Booking Team based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Lancaster.

Main duties of the job

The Supervisor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective delivery of operational services through direct oversight, staff support, and adherence to organisational standards.  The Supervisor is responsible for maintaining service continuity, promoting a safe and productive working environment, and ensuring that staff are equipped and supported to deliver high-quality care and outcomes.

Key responsibilities include coordinating daily activities, monitoring performance, managing incidents, and facilitating communication across teams. The Supervisor also plays a critical role in upholding governance, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and contributing to workforce development through training and mentorship.

 

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay. 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Ensure the smooth running of day-to-day operational processes, maintaining service delivery in line with organisational standards and policies

Provide direct supervision, guidance and support to staff, ensuring appropriate delegation of tasks and promoting a positive working environment.

Monitor staff performance and contribute to the appraisal process and development planning

Ensure adherence to organisational protocols, including health and safety, safeguarding and data protection

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GSCE Level or equivalent to include English Language and Maths
  • Computer literate including qualification or experience in Office 365
  • NVQ in Business Admin or equivalent

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Understanding of patient and staff confidentiality protocols
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and that of the team
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Effect time management - working to deadlines

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Considerable Health Care Booking Systems
  • Supervisory experience
  • Understand to a high level Lorenzo and eRS computer systems
