Do you have a passion for rehabilitation and enabling others to regain and maintain their independence and function in their own home or care home setting?
We are looking for a qualified or trainee Technical Instructor who is able to complete the Assistant Practitioner Apprenticeship training. You will work within our friendly therapy team, alongside registered therapy colleagues delivering high quality rehabilitation.
The therapy team consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Technical Instructors, Therapy Assistants and Admin colleagues.
You will carry a caseload delegated by the nominated clinician, and be responsible for interventions with patients. You will carry out the assessment of an individual’s level of function and consider the persons activities of daily living.
Applicants must have a genuine interest in people and be enthusiastic and motivated in enabling people to regain and retain their independence.
The Community Therapy team covers the Lancaster District of Lancashire, based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
Service hours Monday - Friday 08:00 - `18:30 and Saturday and Sunday 08:30 - 16:30 on a rota basis.
If the successful candidate is required to undertake the Assistant Practitioner foundation degree apprenticeship, they will be initially employed at band 3 until they have successfully completed the training.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as a member of the Integrated Community Therapy & Rehabilitation Service - North Lancs to provide assessment and rehabilitation as a part of the wider multi-disciplinary service.
The post holder will provide assessment and treatment to patients with diverse health needs, mainly within peoples own homes and the residential rehabilitation unit , but with flexibility to work in other areas as required.
You will assist qualified Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy staff in the education and training of staff from own and other disciplines within the multi-disciplinary service, including training to care and other support staff.
Provide feedback to the qualified Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist and recognise own limitations.
Will engage in regular informal and formal supervision.
Be responsible for managing a delegated caseload on a day to day basis including prioritisation of tasks.
Assess, provide and check the provision of aids, equipment and exercises to patients on your defined case load.
Work in the community as a lone worker in line with Trust and departmental Lone Working Policy.
Adhere to the code of ethics and conduct for Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy and Allied Health Professional standards of practice, as required by the team.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes ,community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent , improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care , advice and support.

>ducation & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care/Assistant Practitioner Qualification or equivalent or a willingness to start to work towards this qualification within 12 months of starting in post
- Full UK driving licence/Ability to travel independently to areas not served by public transport
- Computer skills relevant to roll (Microsoft Office, EMIS, STRATA)
- Literacy skills at level 2 or above (GCSE, Functional Skills or equivalent )
Desirable criteria
- Training relevant to Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy Core Skills for example OTAGO, Trusted Assessor, Therapeutic Moving and Handling
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working in a Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or other related Allied Health Professional service.
- Experience making independent clinical and professional decisions at AP level, taking into consideration Trust/Departmental Policies/Procedures
- Experience of manage own case load, seeking support when required.
- Experience of manual handling including legislation and techniques
- Knowledge and ability to follow trust policies and procedures
- Proven ability to effectively communicate with people.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a community health setting
- Able to demonstrate commitment to continued Professional Development.
- Experience in delivering information in a group setting
- Experience prescribing small aids and adaptations
