An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic dietitian to join our friendly and supportive team at Royal Lancaster Infirmary within the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay on the edge of the Lake District offering a wide variety of leisure activities for a positive work life balance. 

 The post would ideally be suited to a newly or recently qualified dietitian wishing to expand their dietetic skills and knowledge. There will be opportunities for career progression and development.

Applicants should be HCPC registered dietitians. The post will be based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary but may require travel to other sites within the Trust. 

 

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work as part of a site based team, with the support of experienced dietitians. The post covers a range of inpatient work including medical, surgical, orthopaedics, oncology, and stroke management as well as outpatient clinics.  As such you will gain experience in a wide range of clinical areas such as nutrition support, enteral feeding and gastroenterologyYou may have the opportunity to gain experience in paediatrics and other dietetic specialist areas where appropriate. 

The department is approved for training student dietitians.  We have excellent IT facilities and are committed to personal development and training. 

 

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay. 

Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes ,community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent , improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care , advice and support.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registered Dietitian
  • Commitment to achieve Student training qualifications within 2 years of taking up post
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant dietetic courses (other than Dietetic course to attain HCPC)
  • Member of British Dietetic Association

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Comprehensive experience at under-graduate level or at Band 5 of the core competencies within Dietetics
  • Evidence of knowledge of current best practice in Dietetics
Desirable criteria
  • Recent dietetic experience in an acute setting

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Assessment, observation, evaluation and reporting skills
  • Can demonstrate ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Ability to work single handed with access to guidance from Dietetic colleagues on site or by telephone.
  • Basic knowledge of health and social care legislation and guidelines e.g. Department of Health documents, National Clinical Guidelines and their application to Dietetic practice.
  • Understanding of team dynamics. Ability to build effective working relationships
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using electronic patient records
  • Experience of collaborative working across/between professions/agencies to achieve agreed outcomes for individuals in delivery of treatment outcomes
