Job overview

We are seeking an experienced compassionate and motivated Cardiology Ward Manager to lead our inpatient cardiology unit. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled nurse with strong clinical expertise, comprehensive cardiac clinical knowledge and the ability and motivation to deliver outstanding patient centred care whilst inspiring and developing a multidisciplinary team. You'll be at the forefront of healthcare excellence, responsible for overseeing the daily operations , inspiring your team, and delivering exceptional patient outcomes.
The successful candidate will provide visible and effective leadership ensuring the delivery of safe, high quality evidence based care for patients with a wide range of acute and chronic cardiac conditions.
This is pivotal role in the efficient functioning of a high-pressure environment, working in tandem with the current leadership team to ensure smooth operations, exceptional patient outcomes, and a cohesive team dynamic.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:

Collaborative Leadership: Partner closely with the current leadership team to lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team. Foster a culture of collaboration, mutual support, and shared accountability to optimize patient care delivery.

Clinical Excellence: Uphold the highest standards of clinical care, overseeing the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of acutely ill patients. Monitor patient progress, intervene as necessary, and champion evidence-based practices to enhance outcomes.

Operational Oversight: Manage the day-to-day operations of the AMU, including patient flow management, bed allocation, and resource utilization. Coordinate closely with the existing leadership team to streamline processes, and maximize efficiency.

Resource Management: Work collaboratively to allocate staffing, equipment, and supplies effectively, ensuring that the department is adequately resourced to meet patient needs while adhering to budgetary constraints and regulatory standards.

Quality Assurance: Implement robust quality assurance measures to monitor and enhance the quality of care provided within the department. Conduct regular audits, analyse performance data, and implement improvement initiatives in partnership with the nursing team.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
