Job overview

We have a vacancy for a full-time substantive (10 PA) Medical Oncology Consultant to join our motivated, friendly and experienced Oncology team at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust. You will preferably demonstrate an interest in Upper GI and Colorectal Cancer and will also be expected to share acute oncology duties with the rest of the consultant team.

Applicants who are seeking to work part-time or flexibly will also be considered. Interested applicants with slightly different site speciality interests should enquire to the clinical team.

"A Financial Incentive package may be available for the right candidate"

Main duties of the job

This post represents a career opportunity for a clinician with imagination, drive and commitment to work with the other Oncology Consultants and the wider cancer multidisciplinary team. You would be expected to work in the two tumour sites of upper GI and colorectal cancer, working in partnership with the current UHMB oncology team as well as with visiting Clinical Oncologists from Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We have an active research department and you will have the opportunity to be involved in research and act as PI for trials in your areas of interest. You will also contribute to the acute oncology inpatient service in UHMB, and work alongside our established acute oncology ANP team. There is currently no on call commitment associated with the post.

This is a pan-UHMB appointment, and the appointee will be expected to work across at least two of the three UHMB sites (Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital and Furness General Hospital). The Trust is a recognised Cancer Unit, providing systemic therapy for all common tumour sites. SACT is given at all three sites. The acute oncology and inpatient services are at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
