Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Careers and Apprenticeships team and enhance the industry placement offer for Level 3 learners in the Trust. Building and maintaining relationships across the Trust and with partner colleges will be essential to this role, as well as being a first point of contact for T Level learners for pastoral support and guidance. The post-holder will be a great team worker, supporting other work undertaken by the Careers and Apprenticeships team such as Apprenticeships.

Main duties of the job

1. Support the provision of high quality industry placements for Level 3 learners within the Trust.
2. Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as Trust colleagues and partner colleges to develop placement provision
3. Independently deliver group induction sessions to college students across the Trust.
4. Act as first point of contact for learners on placements to ensure all preparatory arrangements are in place for students commencing placements, and provide learners with pastoral support, advice and guidance both prior to, and during, their placement.
5. Access and deal with confidential, personal and sensitive information in a confidential and professional manner.
6. Ensure that child safeguarding procedures are followed in line with Trust policy
7. Work with the Apprenticeship Lead to highlight and promote progression routes such as Apprenticeships to Level 3 learners
8. To positively promote an environment conducive to learning and to be responsive to the growing educational needs of placement students.
9. Work autonomously or as part of a team, with foresight and advanced planning, seeking clarification from colleagues when necessary.
10. To attend regular meetings and to take formal notes which will be at a strategic level with managers and external partners around the Trusts T Levels offer.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade C or equivalent) / NVQ 3 Qualification for example A levels, NVQ 3 or Diploma Level qualification or equivalent / ECDL or ICT Qualification
  • Substantial administration experience in a similar role.
  • Experience of organising placements, supporting students ideally within a healthcare setting.
  • Experience of working and supporting young people in an educational setting.
  • Attendance of attendance at meetings with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience of producing reports for dissemination internally and externally.
  • Worked within or closely alongside a healthcare provider.
  • Proven IT Skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office packages and Teams.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise workload accordingly.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships, using strong communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Confidently and independently present information sessions to groups of young learners.
  • Confidently liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Able to keep up to date with sector developments.
  • Able to provide pastoral support to young learners, applying discretion where appropriate.
  • Sound understanding of the principles of child safeguarding and ability to apply it in line with Trust policy and procedures.
  • Sound understanding of Level 3 qualifications and their progression routes, including Apprenticeships.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing needs of the sector
  • Ability to travel as required

  • Knowledge of Apprenticeship pathways for young learners.
  • Knowledge of NHS entry level roles and requirements for these.
