INTERNAL ONLY TO NORTH CUMBRIA INTEGRATED CARE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST (NCIC) EMPLOYEES ONLY

To provide radiology services across North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust at two main sites Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven as well as three community sites, Keswick, Penrith and Workington. Comprising general radiography, dental, fluoroscopy, angiography (incl. coronary), Bone Densitometry (DXA), CT, MRI and ultrasound facilities.

Referrals for radiological opinion come from a wide range of specialities typically encountered within a district general hospital, including 24 hour emergencies. General and Dental practitioners also refer patients into the service. The establishment includes consultant radiologists, professional lead, radiographers, nurses, clerical and radiographic support staff. 

Main duties of the job

· Process and manage patient information utilising computer based patient entry systems and manual files.

· Check for correct patient identification.

· Remain fully conversant with the clerical systems and processes within Radiology, ensuring personal accuracy for inputting data onto the computerised Radiology Information System.

· Remain sufficiently conversant with Radiology examinations to answer patient enquiries, seeking the advice of colleagues if you are requested to undertake duties outside your level of confidence and / or competence.

· Develop understanding of the Radiological examinations and related preparation regimes that are relevant to the appointments.

· Make appointments for patients using the Radiology Information System.

· Use the Patient Administration System to order and track patient medical notes and check and update patient details.

· Explain Radiology examinations to patients and put them at ease without reference to clinical staff. Exercise judgement when to counsel patients with regard to their questions and fear of examinations.

· Communicate effectively with a range of people e.g. patient transport services, the referrers team, the patients and relatives, when co-ordinating appointments.

· Prioritise interruptions calmly.

· Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team that provides radiography services.

· Understand the hazards associated with radiology.
