Fully Qualified Paramedic - CHARU

It has been an exciting time at Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust as we continue our journey of "Being our Best", and our mission to provide world-class patient care.

We are now looking to appoint fully qualified paramedics to our CHARU team.

Interview Dates (including driving, OSCE and MCQ Assessment  - 29th July, 30th July and 1st August in Brecon.

  • Dobshill 
  • Porthmadog 

If successful 4 week training will commence 20th October 2025 in Swansea.

Main duties of the job

The Cymru High Acuity Response Unit (CHARU) is a specialised resource operated by a Paramedic or Senior Paramedic who has successfully completed an intensive training program. This program is designed to enhance technical expertise in cardiac arrest management and trauma care, while also introducing essential non-technical skills.

CHARU's primary objective is to coordinate and deliver optimal patient care, provide support in clinical decision-making, and enhance the quality of care during critical incidents.

The unit are equipped with advanced resources, including enhanced analgesia and a mechanical CPR device, which can be deployed in specific situations to improve patient outcomes.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A recognised Higher Education paramedic qualification (Dip HE) or Successfully completed an approved Paramedic Training Programme.
  • Registered Paramedic with the Health and Care Professionals Council.
  • A recognised Higher Education Paramedic qualification (with recognised equivalent experience).
  • IHCD Advanced Driving Programme 11(D2) (BTEC Level 3 in Emergency Ambulance Driving.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of being able to work effectively and safely in any unpredictable environment.
  • Ability to provide high quality care that is responsive to patient need and changing Human Factors, along with the ability to work autonomously and independently.
  • Evidence of the ability to handle conflict and respect others values, religions and opinions
  • Evidence of Specialist knowledge and experience across the range of work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge or significant practical experience in prioritising needs and informed decision making, in the delivery of care, to include, attending High Acuity calls.
  • Evidence of the the ability, to work within a team, and independently.
