Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within a busy and varied environment, working to make a positive contribution to our patient and staff experience.

We are seeking to recruit an organised, motivated Flexible Catering Store Assistant to work alongside our team. 

The Job Description lists the duties and responsibilities of the role, and the Person Specification lists the experience, qualifications, and knowledge required. 

This post will be working at our Queen’s Hospital in Burton on Trent but travelling to the respective site(s) . 

You will receive full training including a Level 2 Food Safety,  Banksman Training . Mandatory and essential to role training will be given. 

You have an eye for detail and have excellent communication skills .

You have some experience or awareness of stock control and health and safety procedures. 

You are a team player but can also work independently.

The role requires you to have a full driving license. 

Main duties of the job

As a Flexible Store Assistant you will undertake a variety of duties within the department including the ordering on computer systems,  receipt, delivery and checking of goods received, picking of orders and internal distribution of delivered goods. Ensuring quality, accuracy and timely distribution to meet customer requirements whilst maintaining secure and safe working practices.

  • Establish maximum and minimum stock levels for all storage areas.
  • Carry out stock checks of goods to maintain minimum stock levels at frequencies that are determined by the ordering cycle.
  • Request orders to be raised to maintain agreed stock levels and any items required.
  • Taking receipt of all food and non food items for the Catering Department and the Trust’s Retail Outlets delivered into the catering stores using safe storage and temperature checks in accordance with Trust Food Safety Management System.  
  • Record any items not delivered and/or shortages on the delivery note for that consignment.
  • Driving, loading and unloading trust vehicles around the respective sites to deliver orders. Carrying out driver maintenance and vehicle safety checks reporting any defects to the supervisor.  
  • Ensures that all pallets, rolling cages used in the distribution of goods are fit for purpose and returned to the appropriate collection points.
  • Direct the movement and loading/unloading of vehicles when required as the banksman
