Job overview
Applications are invited to apply for a Substantive Consultant Urogynaecology position.
This post will be based at Queens Hospital, Burton but as a merged organisation, we expect flexibility to be able to work cross-sites in the future in line with service developments at UHDB delivers services to patients across Derby, Derbyshire and Staffordshire.
Main duties of the job
There will be a requirement for Gynaecology on call for this post on a 1:10 basis.
Applicants must have Full GMC registration with a licence to practice at time of application and be on the Specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining registration at the time of interview) and have ATSM in advanced labour ward practice and ATSM in urogynaecology and vaginal surgery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is a newly merged Trust bringing together two dynamic, high performing organisations, on an exciting journey towards excellence. The Trust is based across five hospital sites, serving the populations of Derbyshire, Staffordshire and surrounds.
The organisation provides comprehensive services for its local population and a range of specialist services for a wider group of patients. Within the Women’s and Children’s division these specialist services include obstetrics, midwifery led care, paediatrics, neonatology, fetal/maternal medicine, fertility, GUM and HIV services. The community served by the Trust is highly diverse with a complex mix of clinical and cultural needs.

Our Gynaecology service is a large service including sub-specialties - Gynae Oncology, Endometriosis, Urogynaecology and Reproductive Medicine, besides general Gynaecology service. Royal Derby is a nationally accredited specialized Endometriosis Centre and has been offering tertiary care service for last 4 years. On the Royal Derby Hospital site, there is a single inpatient ward, a day case unit and a large outpatient department which encompasses a diagnostic and treatment area where a large range of ambulatory procedures (hysteroscopy, cystoscopy, colposcopy, MVAC and other minor procedures) are carried out.
This post is mainly to support the significant growth in Gynaecology referrals and restoration of service due to pandemic, where expertise in advanced laparoscopic Gynaecological surgery is essential to perform TLH and supporting Endometriosis service. Participating the Tertiary Care Endometriosis service will involve working alongside the lead consultant in a multidisciplinary set up with dedicated specialist nurse, Clinical Fellow, colorectal and urological surgeons, radiologist and pain team, with regular MDT meetings and joint operating theatre sessions.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCOG or equivalent higher qualification
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice at time of application
- MBBS / MBChB or equivalent
- Life Support Qualification ALS
- Subspecialist training in Urogynecology
- GMC Specialist Register for Gynaecology Specialty OR within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview OR If applying for Full GMC Registration & Licence to Practice simultaneously with a CESR application, supporting documentary evidence must be provided at interview, to confirm an application has been submitted & is under consideration by the GMC
Desirable criteria
- Additional higher medical / scientific degree relevant to the specialty
- ATSM in Menopause or Equivalent
- ATSM Advanced Labour ward practice
Teaching Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence & experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students
- Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills
- Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills
Desirable criteria
- Specific teaching qualification
- Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to under graduates
- Attended a recognised teaching training course
Audit/Research Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of & commitment to clinical audit and/or Quality Improvement Projects (QIP)
- Evidence and ability to assess & apply Evidence-based research into everyday clinical practice
- Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements relevant to the specialty

- Recent extensive experience of Urogynaecology
Desirable criteria
- 1 year of NHS experience
- Laparoscopic urogynecology procedures.

Management and Administrative Experience

- Commitment to Continuing Professional Development & the requirements of clinical governance.
