Endoscopy Nurse
NHS AfC: Band 5
Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Fixed Term/ Secondment for 20 Months, who has an active registration with the NMC to join the Endoscopy team in our purpose-built unit. We are looking for a nurse to join our friendly and progressive team, who has endoscopy experience and/or a minimum of one years’ experience working in an adult/acute environment with an interest in developing in endoscopy.
The Endoscopy Unit is JAG accredited, delivering an endoscopy service which works flexibly to cover a 7-day service, including evenings and weekend working. This very busy department provides care for inpatients and outpatients having a range of endoscopic procedures, including upper and lower GI endoscopies, ERCP, Bronchoscopy and Thorocoscopy. Assessment of patients is provided by the Endoscopy Pre-Assessment team, prior to patients attending on-day for their procedure, where nurse led consent is obtained. Further plans to develop this service are underway which will involve patients completing an online self-assessment. In addition, work is also underway to introduce a Transnasal Endoscopy (TNE) Service at the local Community Diagnostic Centre which will enhance local access to minimally invasive diagnostic procedures for upper gastrointestinal conditions, reducing reliance on hospital-based services and improving patient experience.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work as part of the Endoscopy team, delivering care and treatments to patients and their families throughout their endoscopy journey. You will be required to support all areas of the patient pathway, and following appropriate training and development you will be required to support the pre-assessment service nurse-led consent, co-ordination of patient flow through the department from admission to discharge, including inpatient activity. Registered nurses are also required to cover the ‘out of hours’ on call service for emergencies.
You will have excellent oral and written communication skills together with high standards of clinical care and an ability to put patients at ease. You should be adaptable, having the ability to demonstrate a proactive approach to improving standards of patient care.
