Job overview

Applicants are invited for Physician Assistants post in Paediatrics.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Chesterfield Royal Hospital to gain excellent experience in acute paediatric care within the Child Health department.

A challenging and rewarding role, the posts are essential to supporting the re-modelling and modernisation of the current clinical workforce.

You will be expected to work alongside 4 other Physician Assistants already in post as well as doctors and nurses to help deliver high standards of care.

Once in post there will be opportunity to gain specific skills that will enable you to become an invaluable member of the Child Health team.

Close supervision and training will be provided during a defined preceptorship period and beyond , enabling you to embed core skills, knowledge and competencies and a designated consultant supervisor will oversee and support career development.  Working days initially, once 6-month preceptorship is completed, will cover a shift pattern which will include some weekend and twilight shifts as well as normal days, working on a 1:5 on-call rota.

Person specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Degree at 2:2 level or above
  • PG Dip in Physician Associate Studies from a UK PA programme
  • Current and valid certification or re-certification by the UK PA National Examination
Desirable criteria
  • CPR (BLS)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
  • Ability to exercise sound judgements when faced with conflicting pressures
  • Awareness of current developments and initiatives in services appropriate to Child Health
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience working with children
  • Previous experience working in a heathcare setting
  • Undertaken audit/teaching/Clinical research

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of confidentiality issues with Neonates and families
  • Ability to work as part of a team effectively
  • Knowledge of how to manage basic paediatric conditions
  • Ability to adhere to regulations as well as work flexibly to meet the needs of the department and the Trust
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to respond to questions in a tactful and professional manner
  • Caring attitude towards patients and parents/carers
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, Nurses, other staff and agencies
  • Commitment to CPD and professional development
  • Sound IT knowledge including Microsoft Office
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and creates good working relationships
Desirable criteria
  • Practical skills knowledge such as cannulation and venepuncture
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance
