Job overview

The HCA within sexual health services will work in a busy integrated sexual health environment, within a multidisciplinary team. The staffing structure is designed to support the delivery of core services at the service hubs based at Wheatbridge & spokes in at a variety of locations throughout Derbyshire, including the High Peak. 

 

Main duties of the job

You will provide quality care and behave in a professional manner at all times in order to meet agreed Trust and National standards when undertaking procedures such as: registering, advising and supporting patients in the clinical setting to undertake self-administered asymptomatic screens in line with BASHH guidance.

You will perform follow up tests such as coding all clinical contacts, clinical observations, performing venepuncture.

You will be involved in the with testing:

HIV laboratory testing

Point of care testing,

Urine and pregnancy testing,

Gram staining,

performing diagnostic microscopy and other duties. 

You will be required to assess patients’ level of understanding and experience in relation to consent to undergo clinical procedures (including HIV testing) and refer complex clients/clinical situation where appropriate to senior staff.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade C or above)
  • Educated to NVQ level 2 in relevant subject or equivalent level of qualification or equivalent previous proven experience
  • IT Literacy Skills
Desirable criteria
  • Venepuncture training (or willingness to undertake once appointed)

Skills and Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a wide range of healthcare providers
  • Hold a valid driving license and have access to own vehicle for work
