Job overview

DSFS requires a highly motivated Maintenance Assistant who will be based within the estates department at Chesterfield Royal HospitalThe role will support various tradespeople within the workshop and so the post-holder will learn a wide mix of electrical, plumbing and mechanical skills in addition to their core skillset Typical works would include supporting mechanical staff stripping down calorifiers and boilers, supporting with electrical light testing and helping our backlog maintenance team carry out replacement of fire doors. 

The post-holder will be recruited into one of the workshop teams but may be required to work within any of the teams within the workshop depending on the needs of the departmentThere will be occasional requirements to work outside the normal estates hours (08:00 – 16:00 Monday to Friday) to carry out works which cannot be completed in hours and so a flexible approach to working hours is required. 

The role will require occasional travel to our customers based outside of Chesterfield Royal Hospital, such as the community clinics that we manage for Royal Primary Care.

Providing help and support to colleagues through general labouring, PPM's and technical duties.

Overtime and flexible working available on agreement with management.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Vocational Level 2 qualification (or circa 2 years of experience working on the tools in a relevant role).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience carrying out work in a construction environment.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of assisting tradespeople to carry out maintenance and installation work.
  • Experience of carrying out minor maintenance tasks without supervision.
  • Experience of using a variety of hand and power tools accurately and safely.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using Computer Aided Facilities Management software to manage and complete jobs.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able to quickly learn new skills.
  • Good hand/eye co-ordination
  • Able to source information to understand how to correctly install materials and carry out installation work.
  • Able to use hand and power tools to complete smaller maintenance tasks independently and to a high standard
  • Able to read and understand engineering drawings within area of expertise.
