We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Clinical Psychologist to provide a high-quality clinical service to the Acute In-patient Unit at the Hartington Unit.  You will be an integral part of the MDT in providing a service to people admitted at a time of crisis. You will provide both direct and indirect psychological interventions and be part of the senior leadership team. 

This post has come about due to the existing Clinical Psychologist taking up a 3 year fellowship. Following this time you will be supported to find a suitable post within the Division of Psychology and Psychological Therapies.

Main duties of the job

We are excited to offer this 8b role which provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced Psychologist to further develop and consolidate their skills working within the specialist area of  Acute Care.

The post offers the opportunity to provide the full range of Clinical Psychology roles, working with an individual caseload and also to work indirectly with the multi disciplinary team and the wider Acute Care Service.  

We are looking for an enthusiastic Psychologist with excellent leadership skills as well as  relationship-building skills and abilities to manage varied work demands.

Managed within the profession, you will be joining a committed team of highly skilled Clinical Psychologists working within the Acute Care Pathway, and a wide network of Psychologists working in other specialties across the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

The post holder will be expected to work across different sites relevant to the post.  Although the post is based mainly on site with an expectation of face to face working, there will also be opportunities to carry out some of the duties working from home.

Within the Division of Psychology and Psychological Therapies  we have Psychologists with training and experience in a range of therapeutic models including ACT, CFT, Systemic therapy, ISTDP, CAT and EMDR.

There are multiple opportunities for peer support, a range of specialist supervision groups (e.g. focusing on therapeutic models, dissociation, EMDR, neuropsychology) and regular CPD events.

We have excellent links with local Clinical Psychology Training Courses, and provide regular placements and teaching.

Job Summary:

The post holder will take a lead role, as a Clinical Psychologist at the Hartington In-patient Unit. 

They will provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention of complex cases, at the same time as offering clinical leadership, advice and consultation on psychological aspects of service users’ assessments and overall care packages.

The post holder will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary teams and will combine direct clinical work with supervision, training, consultation, research and service evaluation/development. 

The post holder will provide specific consultation and supervision to other Clinical Psychologists and MDT colleagues in providing effective and appropriate care including psychological interventions, especially relating to complexity and risk.

The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service.

They will utilise research skills for outcome measurement, audit, policy, service development and research, and offer management support to propose and implement policy changes within the service.

They will use the highest quality of psychological evidence and clinical accountability to inform and enable best practice. 

The post holder will have  a passion for trauma informed care and experience of working with those having a wide range of complex mental health needs and deliver evidence based interventions to clients with severe and enduring mental health problems including those who have experienced complex trauma and have a difficult relationship with the care giving system.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Post–graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or those in lateral transfer) as accredited by the BPS/HCPC
  • Eligible for chartered status with the BPS
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
Desirable criteria
  • Training and qualifications in, research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology
  • Chartered status with the BPS
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist in a relevant clinical speciality including at a highly specialist level (usually for a minimum of four years, including two years at a highly specialised level).
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of service users across a broad range of settings and including experience of working with people in an acute setting
Desirable criteria
  • Expertise and interest in another specialist area (e.g medical trauma, substance misuse service etc) relevant to the service user group

  • Ability to meet the travel requirements of the post

  • Training in Trauma Informed Care
