Job overview

Do you have NVQ L3 in Health and Social Care or the Care Certificate issued by an organisation based on the standards set by Health Education England, Skills for Care and Skills for Health? If so we are looking for Nursing Assistants to join our Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individuals to work full time within our acute inpatient services across both in our brand new Carsington Unit on our Kingsway Hospital, Derby, site and Radbourne Unit. 

This is an exciting time to work for Derbyshire Healthcare.  The new facilities will improve safety, privacy and dignity for our adult acute mental health patients by providing en-suite accommodation in single rooms.

This is a great opportunity for you to support shaping the service and build the team along with the Ward Manager and other senior leaders. You will work alongside others to establish and develop this new ward for Derbyshire and collaborate with an innovative and forward-thinking programme team and senior leaders.

 

Main duties of the job

You will:

  • Work as part of a team responsible for the delivery of patient/client-centred care.
  • Promote and support service user and carer involvement; autonomy and choices are an integral part of the philosophy of the Trust.
  • As a valued member of the team, you will deliver high standards of person-centred care showing empathy, patience and understanding at all times.
  • As part of the multi-disciplinary team, you will work within the Trust Core Care Standards and promote service user dignity at all times.
  • As a Healthcare Assistant you will be actively involved in delivering direct patient care under the supervision of qualified nurses and be accountable for the reporting of the care you give to qualified nursing staff.
  • The team is multi-disciplinary in nature.  You would be an active and supportive member of the team.
  • We can offer ongoing training and development, clinical supervision & managerial supervision, an annual PADR and personal development plan.
  • Always act in a way which reflects both the word and spirit of the Trust’s values.

As a Healthcare Assistant you will be completing daily duties including: 

  • Providing care and support for patients who are acutely mentally unwell
  • Spending 1:1 time with patients
  • Escorting patients off the ward
  • Completing levels of observations with patients
  • Engaging patients in therapeutic activities
  • Completing physical observations and general physical checks
  • Working alongside a multi-disciplinary team to make changes in patients' care
  • Supporting patients with their ADLs
  • Managing difficult situations
  • Providing support to other wards across the unit
  • Responding to patients when they are distressed

Qualifications/Experience

Essential criteria
  • NVQ L3 in Health and Social Care or the Care Certificate issued by an organisation based on the standards set by Health Education England, Skills for Care and Skills for Health
  • Recent, relevant experience of working within Healthcare
Desirable criteria
  • To have a basic understanding and experience of different mental illness

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Be able to work as a part of a large multi-disciplinary team
  • Be able to work flexibly throughout a 24-hour rota
  • Experience of working with adults with mental health needs
