Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a substantive replacement post in Community Paediatrics, which also includes the role of Named Doctor for Safeguarding Children.

 The post is available as a full time position, but those wishing to work less than full time are welcome to discuss. The post is subject to the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s terms and conditions and the salary reflects national contract provisions.

The appointee will report to the Medical Director of the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and the job plan will be agreed with the Clinical Director for Community Paediatrics in the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

 

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based predominantly in the South Derbyshire Dales area (Ashbourne and Wirksworth), with a small number of clinics in the Amber Valley area to support the existing team there. Duties Include

·       Seeing children and young people referred for assessment of child development, neurodevelopmental conditions and physical disability.

·       Liaising with other disciplines and agencies on individual case management and the preparation of reports

 As named doctor for safeguarding children, duties include:

·       Participating in a rota to provide clinic cover for children referred by social care for assessment of injuries/ physical abuse (NAI clinic)

·       Chairing monthly local community paediatric NAI peer review meetings

·       Quality control and audit of reports 

·       Attending regular safeguarding liaison meetings with colleagues from other services/ neighbouring NHS Trusts

·       Management of community paediatric team on call rotas for physical abuse and rapid response for child death

·       Lead doctor in Derby City and South Derbyshire for CDOP (Child Death Overview Panel) process

·       Providing more specialist advice to the community paediatric team on reports for court and complex safeguarding cases

·       Ensure robust policies, procedures and guidelines are in place to safeguard children across Derbyshire

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Fully registered with the General Medical Council, UK
  • Included on specialist register or within 6 months
  • MRCPCH (or equivalent)
  • Postgraduate training in community paediatrics
  • Appropriate level management training and experience
  • Evidence of recent safeguarding training Level 3 or above
Desirable criteria
  • Training in formal assessments for ASD/ADHD
  • Other postgraduate qualification/training in paediatrics and child health

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Be clinically active (or have held an active clinical position previously) in the field of looked after children, as part of their clinical commitments
  • Experience in teaching, clincial audit and research
  • Have substantial clinical experience in the field of looked after children and substantial experience of the legislation relating to children and young people, safeguarding and court processes.

  • Must be able to be mobile around the district
