Specialist Mental Health Pharmacist

NHS AfC: Band 6/7

Want to make a real difference and have a truly rewarding career?  Join 'Team Derbyshire Healthcare' and become part of a talented, compassionate and enthusiastic workforce committed to a vision of ‘making a positive difference in people's lives’.

We’ve been rated ‘good’ overall by the CQC, with some outstanding services.  The CQC commented at our most recent inspection on how our colleagues “treated patients with compassion and kindness” and “felt positive and proud about working for the trust.

We are passionate about making equality, diversity and inclusion part of our DNA. We take pride in our “People First Culture” which creates a workplace where everyone feels a genuine sense of belonging, difference is celebrated, and people are comfortable to bring their whole selves to work. We value the richness that comes from having colleagues that are fully representative of the local community. We welcome people who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, protected characteristics, and with all backgrounds and experiences.

Job overview

Over the past year we have expanded our mental health pharmacy in Derbyshire significantly, in order to extend and make a meaningful difference to patients in the community, while maintaining our respected service to inpatient areas. The organisational investment in pharmacy services is a reflection of the trust and value placed in our friendly, knowledgeable and effective team.

Due to progression of a current team member we now have an opportunity for a pharmacist to join our established and respected team, working primarily in an inpatient setting. The role would suit pharmacists with previous mental health and hospital experience who are looking to consolidate their skills, as well as those considering a move into mental health pharmacy from another sector.

Starting grade will depend upon existing skills and experience. Those commencing at Band 6 will be supported in their personal development to transition to Band 7 through a structured progression plan.

Our pharmacists are provided with opportunities for personal growth and development, including full funding for post-graduate qualifications in mental health pharmacy, including the certificate and diploma, and independent prescribing qualification. The department also provides trainee pharmacist foundation training, in house revalidation support and funding for conference attendance.

Main duties of the job

The roles and duties of these posts include:

  • Developing close working relationships with other members of the multi-disciplinary team and contributing to clinical care plans
  • Responding to medication-related queries, providing advice on prescribing and promoting evidence based practice
  • Discussing medication with patients and carers and developing a variety of approaches to support informed care in the community
  • Educating colleagues about medicines management and medicines optimisation

Pharmacists contribute to an on-call rota in the evenings and at weekends.
