Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and proactive senior pharmacy assistant with excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills to join the pharmacy team
This newly created post will work within the Dispensary, Distribution, Procurement and Stores teams.
This role will ensure medicines are delivered safely and efficiently to our patients.
The successful candidate will be expected to have a NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or awaiting certificate.
Main duties of the job
Accurately Dispense clinical screened prescriptions safely following standard operating procedures to support patient care and timely leave and discharge supplies.
Responsible for procurement of medicines, operating in collaboration with national, regional and local procurement contract networks, and in accordance with legislation (Medicines Act) and the standards required for wholesale dealers’ authorisation from the MHRA within the store area. (Department currently doesn’t have this licence).
Support and participate in the routine pharmacy stock take.
Designated Person in Charge SDP team sessions, ensuring all staff are trained and assessed to order, receive and supply stock medicines safely and efficiently in line with procedures.
Support the supply of vaccines to trust premises during vaccination campaigns.
Participate in the day to day co-ordination of the replenishment of emergency medicines to DHCFT inpatient wards, Hope and Resilience Hub and ECT.
Carry out checking of stock medicines on a regular basis.
This post holder will need to be department based.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Accurately dispense, assemble and issue medication including compliance aids and extemporaneous products from an allocated workload. Near completion of the apprenticeship, the dispensing of controlled drugs will be added into the dispensing tasks.
Input and update medication information data onto the pharmacy computer system and other record systems, according to department procedures.
Support the Clozapine service dispensing medicines, ensuring outpatient cards are put away for the current week and the next weeks cards are then prepared for dispensing for collection by a patient or distribution to a POCHI clinic/designated delivery point.
Input routine information onto the ZTAS system.
Support the bagging up of Clozapine prescriptions for distribution or collection
Issue prescriptions at the dispensary hatch as per procedure
Act as a role model, foster a patient centred culture and always project a professional attitude and appearance within and outside the department.
Order pharmaceuticals and sundries, from approved suppliers, in accordance with contractual arrangements, including use of electronic systems.
Ensure the safe supply of stock medicines to all wards and teams throughout the trust.
Support stock take activities.
Ensure effective communication between the pharmacy and its customers.
Participate in the unpacking, assembly and checking of stock orders.
Participate in the safe distribution of pharmacy medicines.
Participate in the emptying of boxes if the service requires.
Participate in the expiry dating procedures of the stock in the Pharmacy store and dispensary.
Assess, check and record DHCFT pharmacy returns
Manage own workload and oversee the workload within the stores, distribution and procurement team and delegate workload.
Provide leadership support to pharmacy support workers and pre-registration pharmacy technicians working with SDP.
Monitor all processes and takes action to address shortfalls, to provide assurance that the department complies with all pharmaceutical standards.
Support waste disposal activity within the pharmacy department in accordance with department, trust and environmental procedures
