An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Full Time Principal Clinical Psychologist to work within Rehabilitation Services.

This is a new role within the inpatient and community rehabilitation services.

The successful candidate will be offering support and rehabilitation where the contribution of psychology is valued by other clinicians and management. As a key member of a multi-disciplinary team you will be able to combine direct clinical work, supervision, training, consultation, programme development, research and service evaluation/ development.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and appreciative of the challenges of working with difficult to engage clients with complex mental health needs. You will be committed to multidisciplinary team working, have excellent relationship building skills and be capable of managing varied work demands.

You would be joining a growing rehabilitation service which is part of a large, Derbyshire-wide supportive Clinical Psychology service where there are excellent opportunities.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

You will be responsible for autonomously providing inpatient and community highly specialist clinical psychology services, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, for adults with a wide range of mental health problems and forensic histories.

You will  work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of team policies and procedures. You will be responsible for offering advice, consultation and training to  the multidisciplinary team, other  colleagues, and non-professional  carers, on matters related to the psychological needs and issues relevant to the service and its users. You will supervise clinical psychologists, assistants, and psychologists during their postgraduate training and other psychologists as appropriate.  To utilise research skills for audit, policy, and service development and research relating to the Rehabilitation Services in Derby.

Qualifications

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • Post–graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology or forensic psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or those in lateral transfer) as accredited by the B.P.S., and giving eligibility for Chartered including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan development psychology
  • Chartered status with the BPS
  • Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists

  • Training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology
  • Eligibility for full chartered status in both clinical and forensic psychology
  • Formal training and/or accreditation in risk assessment tools (e.g. RSVP, PCL-R; RM2000, HCR-20 etc)
  • Other training in a relevant area e.g. MSc forensic psychology or another applied psychology subject

Experience

  • Experience of working as a qualified clinical or forensic psychologist including at a highly specialist level (usually for a minimum of four years, including two years at a highly specialised level).
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment (including risk assessment), formulation and treatment of clients across a broad range of settings
  • Experience of working with staff teams to support the delivery of therapeutic care
  • Experience of providing teaching, training and supervision
  • Experience of contributing to service development and delivery

  • Use of specific assessment tools appropriate to service including neuropsychological and standardised risk assessment or personality assessment tools
  • Experience of working with clients with challenging behaviour
  • Experience of working with clients with dual diagnosis (including substance misuse)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Very high level of interpersonal and communication skills enabling written and oral presentation and receipt of complex and sensitive information, to facilitate acceptance and relate effectively in an emotive and hostile environment
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, formulation & intervention and management, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
  • Ability to adapt communication and use specialist communication approaches to aid service user understanding
  • Ability to make judgements involving highly complex facts or clinical situations through assessment, analysis and interpretation of information and deciding on appropriate action from a range of options. This may involve situations where options are conflicting and where expert opinion differs or some information is unavailable.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership and service development skills
