We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated midwife to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire and drive changes to maternity and neonatal services for our Derbyshire population.

Main duties of the job

Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) is the maternity and neonatal arm of the Integrated Care System, bringing together commissioners, providers of maternity and neonatal services and service users, we aim to make services safer, more personalised, and more equitable for women, babies, and families.

At Derby and Derbyshire ICB, we  are looking for an energetic and motivated individual for the role of Head of Quality, Maternity and Neonatal to join our LMNS Team to provide programme leadership of the Three-Year Delivery Plan for Maternity and Neonatal Services.

The post holder will  work with our wider system partners to deliver the Three-Year Delivery Plan for Maternity and Neonatal Services across Derbyshire, and with our neighbouring ICBs.

They will be responsible for providing senior programme management and commissioning expertise to the programme, specifically taking a lead on all non-clinical workstreams in the programme.

The post holder will work in partnership with service users and their representatives (through the Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnerships) hospitals, community trusts, primary care, Public Health and the community and voluntary sector, to co-produce improvements, transformation and change and to ensure that outcomes are effectively monitored.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Be the responsible officer for an overarching programme of delivery projects for Better Births for Derbyshire – ensuring their full successful delivery in a timely fashion and with a focus on delivery;
  • Take the lead for the development, planning, facilitation, monitoring and communicating progress of project and programmes related to the delivery of Better Births in Derbyshire - ensuring that additional activities are initiated wherever gaps or risks are identified;
  • Ensure that programmes have robust governance systems in place to support delivery - coordinating the Maternity Transformation Board meetings;
  • Work in a proactive and supportive manner with key stakeholders, challenging health and care partners to deliver the project/s in the most effective, efficient and qualitative way for patients and their care;
  • Ensure effective links between the Maternity Transformation Programme, and other key programmes of work that are part of the Joined Up Care Derbyshire;
  • Manage the business development and service improvement aspects on the projects, including developing and managing the business plans, progressing and reporting risks and issue management;
  • Liaise with NHS England and work with them on data and information requests to support the monitoring of progress and sharing of learning - managing all required corporate business returns;
  • The post holder will support the Senior Responsible Officer and wider team (including clinical leads) to ensure that work streams and projects are planned, managed and delivered effectively;

Essential criteria
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area;
  • Extensive knowledge of specialist areas, acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master’s level equivalent;
  • Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy in the area and appreciate the implications of this on engagement ;
  • Developed communication skills for delivering key messages to a range of stakeholders both internal and external (including outside the NHS) to the organisation, some at very senior level;
  • Experience of direct work with service user groups and/or other coproduction work.
  • Ability to use informed persuasion to influence others.
  • Ability to identify risks, anticipate issues and create solutions and to resolve problems in relation to project or service delivery;
  • Evidence of planning and delivering programmes and projects and services on time.
  • Ability to travel independently across the region and occasionally beyond.
