Job overview

We require an organised and flexible individual to support  reception duties within the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Derby Hospital. This is a part time role worked over a 6 week rota and does include weekend working. 

You will be the first point of contact for patients, relatives, and visitors, delivering a courteous, compassionate, and efficient service within a busy and sometimes challenging environment.

Key responsibilities include patient registration, maintaining accurate records, responding to telephone and face-to-face enquiries and supporting clinical staff. 

The role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

Visits to the department are welcomed. 

Main duties of the job

  • You should have the ability to interact with patients and staff on a daily basis in an efficient and friendly way and stay calm in any situation.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring that the correct information is recorded using a variety of IT systems, whilst dealing with a variety of queries.
  • You must be motivated, have good communication, inter-personal and administration skills
  • Maintaining a warm and welcoming reception area for patients.
  • Using your initiative.
  • Ability to multitask and think on your feet.
  • Ability to use multiple computer systems.
  • Liaising with patients, relatives and wider teams via telephone, email and face to face. 
  • Maintaining patient records, filing and scanning notes.

  • GCSE English or equivalent
  • Standard level of IT literacy
