Are you looking for a new challenge?

There has never been a better time to come and work at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust; University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust was formed on 1 July 2018 to bring together our five hospitals – in Derby, Burton, Lichfield and Tamworth – to provide the highest quality care to patients across southern Derbyshire and south east Staffordshire.

With over 12,000 members of staff you can expect huge variety and new opportunities every day! Our staff go above and beyond and are taking pride in caring for our patients – making every moment matter.

Think you’ve got what it takes to join us?

Here’s more about the role and what we’re looking for;

1 x Consultant in Anaesthetics General

We are seeking to appoint a Consultant in Anaesthesia who together with 64 existing Consultant Anaesthetists, 15 Specialty Doctors, 2 Associate Specialists and 24 Trainees will provide a comprehensive anaesthetic service to Derby Hospitals and surrounding areas. A sub-specialty interest that fits in with the needs of the department is encouraged.

The job plan is flexible, with the detailed sessional arrangements driven by demand and candidate’s specialty interest.Fixed sessions are available as detailed in the provisional job plan along with the remaining commitment that will be delivered flexibly over the year.

Royal Derby Hospital's Anaesthetic department has recently become the first in the region, and just the 20th nationwide, to obtain Anaesthetic Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) from the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA). As part of the process, the Trust was required to demonstrate to the RCoA that it could meet all of the 155 quality standards tested.  Following a detailed assessment the department has received this accreditation and can now offer evidence that it provides quality care in theatres that is among the best nationwide

The final phase of a £333 million PFI project in Derby opened in May 2009, bringing all local acute services onto a state of the art single site facility at the new Royal Derby Hospital complex. We serve a population of approximately 570,000 and have a total bed compliment of 1150 with 35 operating theatres, a 16 bed ICU and a 16 bed step-down facility for post operative care. We also have a new maternity suite and Children’s hospital.

We are a major oncology centre providing treatment for upper and lower GI, urological, gynaecological, breast and head and neck malignancies. We also host regional units for hand surgery and bariatrics, and have a large clinical commitment to major orthopaedics, trauma and emergency care with a helipad and state of the art imaging services.

The Trust saw the opening of a graduate entry Medical School in 2004 - a satellite of the University of Nottingham, which has greatly enhanced the teaching and research opportunities for medical staff and the post holders will carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contribute to undergraduate and CME activity, both locally and nationally.
Applicants must hold full GMC Registration and be on, or eligible for entry to the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completion of training at time of interview. They must also be able to demonstrate a wide range of experience in all aspects of anaesthesia.
