Here’s more about the role and what we’re looking for;

Job overview

We are seeking a General Manager to join our Women’s & Children’s Division and play a pivotal role in delivering outstanding healthcare services to our community.

This is a critical senior leadership post within the Gynaecology Business Unit, providing operational leadership and strategic oversight to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and compassionate care.  At a time of unprecedented demand on healthcare services, your leadership will be central to maintaining high standards, improving performance, and shaping future services.

As General Manager, you will work as part of a triumvirate leadership team, alongside the Clinical Director and Matron, providing visible, cohesive, and effective leadership across the Business Unit.

You will hold responsibility for the operational management, performance delivery, and resource utilisation of services, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and financial targets. Working closely with the Divisional Director and Deputy Divisional Director, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the Division, developing and implementing robust strategic plans and performance frameworks.

  • Lead service performance, ensuring delivery of activity, quality, and financial targets
  • Develop and implement strategic and operational plans aligned to divisional and organisational priorities
  • Oversee effective resource management to maximise efficiency and outcomes
  • Drive service redesign and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Engage and support clinical, operational, and multidisciplinary teams in delivering change
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing culture

We are looking for an inspiring and resilient leader who brings:

  • A passion for delivering outstanding, patient-centred care

Working for our organisation

We support women through low and high-risk care pathways, and some specialty pathways like diabetes and cardiology.

We have staff who are kind, caring and compassionate, and who want to deliver exceptional care together for every person who needs us - and that remains our aspiration.

This is a great opportunity to join UHDB and make a real impact for the women and families we care for.

As a University Trust we value learning, teaching, and training so that we help you to be the best that you can be. From the moment you start with us and throughout your career we will help you to grow and develop. We are a vibrant and inclusive organisation, and we always want to treat our patients and staff with the same compassion and empathy we expect for ourselves.

An extensive induction package is offered to successful candidates joining our Maternity services to ensure you are well supported and have time to adjust to working within our teams.
