Job overview

To provide specialist assessment, treatment and education for patients referred to the Perinatal Pelvic Health physiotherapy service.

To act as a source of clinical expertise for example to medical staff, other health care professionals and colleagues within the Perinatal Pelvic Health Physiotherapy service.

To work with the rest of the Perinatal Pelvic Health Service team (PPHS) to co-ordinate and monitor and effective and efficient service to meet the needs of patient referred to the service in line with the changing needs of the Trust.

Hours will be worked to support 7-day service when appropriate, with a commitment to participate in the and Bank Holiday service.

Main duties of the job

Takes a major role in assessing and treating patients with complex pelvic health needs, working autonomously to diagnose, plan treatment and maintain accurate records. Acts as a specialist resource, delivering comprehensive holistic assessments using pelvic‑health‑specific tools, identifying red flags, and interpreting complex clinical information. Uses advanced clinical reasoning to form differential diagnoses, make evidence‑based decisions, and create individualised care plans, adapting management for persistent or multifactorial conditions. Works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes and demonstrates strong communication skills.

Manages a designated inpatient and outpatient caseload, prioritising effectively. Supports the Lead Perinatal Pelvic Health Physiotherapist with day‑to‑day service management, staff allocation, performance review and training. Ensures service targets are met and helps coordinate the team during high‑pressure periods. Supervises and educates physiotherapy students to graduate level and provides structured support and development for all staff. Leads or contributes to audits, research and service improvement, implementing recommended changes. Works across UHDB sites to ensure equitable care and promotes a continuous learning environment with internal and external partners.

Essential criteria
  • Qualification in Physiotherapy at degree level (or equivalent)
  • HCPC registered
  • Evidence of post registration CPD or training in women's health / pelvic health
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate training with accreditation towards Master's degree in pelvic, obstetric or gynaecological health or other relevant modules or willing to work towards this.
  • POGP membership
  • Clinical educator course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-graduate clinical experience in areas applicable to the role
  • Clinical experience within women's health / pelvic health
  • Experience of managing patients with complex presentations across in- and out-patient settings
  • Experience of MDT working and collaboration
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working at a senior level
  • Hydrotherapy experience
  • Experience of patient education / group management
  • Experience of digital record keeping

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Time management and prioritisation skills.
