An exciting role has become available for a Band 5 Community Occupational Therapist to join the Erewash Older Adults Community Mental Health Team.

Main duties of the job

We are an experienced and professional team, dedicated to the goal of providing excellent care for the Older Adult population of Erewash.

Due to the broad geographical area this post covers the post holder will need to demonstrate that they can travel within the area, transporting Service Users as needed occasionally, without compromising service needs.

You will : 

  • Work with Service Users with both functional and organic illnesses, with the full support of the MDT. 
  • Carry a caseload of patients with varying needs.
  • Use excellent assessment skills, risk management skills and communication skills; working towards building therapeutic relationships with both Service Users and their families/carers.
  • Work as part of a knowledgeable, supportive and forward-thinking team who are committed to supporting and guiding learning and development.
  • Work closely with our Voluntary partners and Primary Care.
  • Receive regular Clinical, Managerial and Peer supervision and access a wide range of development opportunities.
  • We welcome applications from newly-qualified Occupational Therapists and offer support and guidance and an excellent Preceptorship programme.
  • Have the peace of mind of knowing the Trust operates a fair and equitable mileage expenses scheme.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC-Registered Occupational Therapist
  • Degree/diploma in Occupational Therapy
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of OT professional body and/or special interest group
  • Post-graduate training relevant to specialist area
  • L’APPLE accreditation

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to apply core OT skills in a mental health setting, including carrying out occupational assessments and setting occupational goals.
  • Well-developed motivational and negotiating skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships
  • Ability to work autonomously and set own priorities
  • Ability to travel across a large geographical area
Desirable criteria
  • Skills in applying evidence-based practice.

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with dementia and/or cognitive impairment
  • Experience of working with people who have severe and enduring needs
  • Knowledge and application of theoretical models of practice
  • Understanding of Mental Health conditions and treatment models
  • Knowledge of the principles or risk assessment and risk management
  • Experience working with older adults
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to Mental Health and Specialist practice where appropriate
  • Evidence of service user and carer involvement activity
  • Evidence of partnership working
