We are excited to be advertising for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist who will provide a high standard of Speech and Language therapy (SLT) service to infants and young children within a community setting. You will act as a source of expertise on SLT providing supervision, training and guidance regarding specialist assessment and intervention to Speech and Language Therapists working within the Early Child Development Pathway to maintain the required standard of clinical governance.  You will have a keen interest and expertise in working with early years children with complex needs and their families.

We will provide an opportunity to support a child and family holistically involving joint working with other members of the MDT in the pathway including Speech and Language Therapists, OTs, Clinical Psychologists, Early Years Practitioners and Paediatricians.

Main duties of the job

Work as a  Specialist Speech and Language Therapist within the Early Child Development Pathway, working as part of an MDT providing Specialist SLT assessments and interventions for a caseload of complex children, and provide support to Speech and Language Therapists working in the Early Child Development Pathway and across all other integrated pathways as required.

Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) comprises an Alliance of NHS organisations working together to improve health outcomes for children and young people in Devon and Torbay. 

CFHD provides integrated care and treatment for children and young people across physical and mental health which are provided by Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust and Devon Partnership Trust. We are working closely with other organisations and providers to ensure we deliver locality and county-wide based integrated access to all of our services, based on the i-Thrive Framework, in response to consultation with our service users and communities.

CFHD works closely with our local universities of Plymouth, Exeter & the Peninsula Medical School where we support students in clinical training placements and in addition support our own staff to undertake post graduate training.

Our integrated care and treatment has been developed and refined in partnership with children, young people and their families/carers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Work as a  Specialist Speech and Language Therapist within the Early Child Development Pathway as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and to provide support to Speech and Language Therapists working across all other integrated pathways as required.

Screen and triage referrals and ensure a strengths-based approach to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions to support the complex packages of care for children with complex additional needs in the community.

Contribute to risk assessment and care planning in collaboration with children, young people and their carers.

Provide specialist SLT assessment, advice and interventions to young children and their families and to hold a caseload of children with complex needs.

Provide case management of an identified caseload of children and young people with highly complex long-term conditions and complex needs by utilising and promoting evidence-based care.
