Job overview

As part of the HART Management Team the HART Team Leader role is highly visible and accountable position within the Trust. The HART Team Leader role is instrumental in helping to support the Senior Managers ensure the smooth day to day running of HART within the Operations Directorate.

The HART Team Leader role will provide clinical leadership, managerial leadership and line management to an operational staff group ensuring high quality patient care is delivered, including within hazardous environments in line with the strategic objectives of the Trust. The HART Team Leader has an important role in support of the operational commander responsibilities including on scene incident management and post incident hot debrief.

The HART Team Leader has a key role in making sure that HART performance is in line with specified KPI’s. As part of this the HART Team Leader role ensures that staff abstractions are maintained within Trust agreed limits, operational resourcing line with the National HART Standard and central reporting systems are accurate.

As an operational Paramedic, the HART Team Leader is responsible for the care, treatment and movement of patients in accordance with the HART Paramedic job description.

Main duties of the job

Visible Leadership

  • This is a highly visible role within HART providing leadership to operational staff to make sure that high quality, safe patient care is delivered at all times

Patient Safety and Quality

  • The HART Team Leader will undertake timely investigations relating to InPhase submissions and adverse incidents in liaison with the Quality Leads and in accordance with the standards set by the Trust.

Establishment and Resourcing

  • The HART Team Leader will ensure positive links with the Fleet teams and NARU in order to maintain core operational resources. 

Planning and Performance

  • As part of the HART Management Team the HART Team Leader is required to provide support in delivering all aspects of performance in line with National Standards for HART.

Financial

  • The HART Team Leader will robustly review and authorise timesheets and expenses for staff up to £2500 per order, ensuring claims are correct; valid & appropriate

Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response

  • The HART Team Leader is a functional command role and will be responsible for ensuring the Operational Command duties are carried out for core service and major incidents in accordance with Trust plans and policies.

Health and Safety

  • The HART Team Leader is accountable for the security for the HART base, taking immediate action which must be documented should breaches be identified. Must also have comprehensive understanding of the lock down procedure for the Trust.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registered Paramedic
  • Current advanced driving qualification
  • Relevant management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Certified/Competent in all core HART capabilities
  • Educated to degree level or relevant equivalent experience with additional specialist knowledge relevant to this role
Desirable criteria
  • An enhanced clinical care qualification
  • A suitable training or teaching Qualification
  • Formal Mentorship qualification
  • Operational Commander qualification with confirmed SWAST CPD

Previous experience (Paid/ Unpaid relevant to job)

Essential criteria
  • At least 2 years experience as a HART Paramedic
  • Experience of supervising staff and supporting new entrants
  • Current continuing professional development portfolio
Desirable criteria
  • No more than one avoidable vehicle accident in last 12 months
