  • To be an expert practitioner in acute care nursing and be able to use these skills in a variety of clinical settings.
  • To work flexibly within the multi-professional team to deliver high quality care to the acutely ill ward patient.
  • Continually strive to improve knowledge with the aim to provide up-to-date evidence based practice to enhance the care of patients in this specialised field of pain management.
  • To be a ALS provider and attend all cardiac arrests and Medical Emergencies, trust wide

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • To work as a member of the acute care team working across the trust. The team will provide a seamless and coordinated service that meets the needs of all patients requiring central venous access, those with acute pain or those who are at risk of deterioration.
  • Assessing patients recently transferred from the Critical Care area and co-ordinating all aspects of care with members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Carry the stroke bleep at night.
  • Provides specialist nursing advice regarding all aspects of acute pain in particular those patients with complex pain management needs.
  • Review patients with advanced pain management systems.
  • To provide advanced clinical skills that are unable/require support to be provided by ward staff alone e.g. tracheotomy care, non-invasive ventilation and Ketamine infusions.
  • Support and educate ward staff in gaining knowledge and skills to recognise and care for patients with acute care needs.

  • Effectively lead, manage and evaluate change in clinical practice.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical governance and risk management and apply to work situation.
  • Actively contribute to and support agreed developments within directorate and Trust objectives.
