Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Otology Role

In this role, you will manage a diverse adult and paediatric otology caseload. A Fellowship in Otology or equivalent consultant-level experience is essential. You will enjoy excellent access to operating lists which we are aware is substantially more than average new consultant placements elsewhere, with mentorship and guidance from experienced senior otologists to support your professional growth.

You will be integral to the assessment and management of patients with balance disorders. Each patient will have a dedicated 30-minute slot, and the department offers access to balance function tests and vestibular rehabilitation services. You will work closely with our vestibular physiotherapist and part time audiologist with a special interest in balance disorders.

Paediatric Role

Both positions will involve an element of general ENT work, as the department is committed to offering a wide range of services. You will also participate in the general ENT on-call rota (currently 1 in 7), ensuring our team always remains responsive to patient needs.

This post offers an opportunity for a Consultant ENT Surgeon specializing in Paediatric ENT. The role will involve managing both general and complex paediatric ENT cases, providing vital care to children from preterm infants to older children. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to offer both elective and emergency paediatric airway care, accepting tertiary referrals from the wider South West Peninsula.

Experience managing ENT conditions in children with complex medical needs or syndromes is crucial. You will have the opportunity to provide compassionate, holistic care to every child, ensuring the highest standards of medical and emotional support.

The successful candidate will be working at Derriford Hospital, Royal Eye Infirmary and Tavistock Hospital. Peripheral clinics are run in Mount Gould Hospital, South Hams and Tavistock Hospital. Time to travel to peripheral clinics will be provided and remunerated within job plan.
