We are seeking a experienced and motivated Clinical Technologist to join our dedicated Nuclear Medicine team. This is an new role ensuring the provision of  the Nuclear Medicine therapy service to patients from across the South West of England. 

The Nuclear Medicine Department at Derriford Hospital is part of the Imaging and Clinical Support Services Directorate and offers the broadest range of examinations of any department in the South-West. It is a tertiary referral centre for specialist examinations and performs approximately 6,500 examinations of 60 different types each year on both in-patients and out-patients.

The department carries out a wide range of imaging and non-imaging diagnostic studies as well as therapy procedures.  The department is equipped with three gamma cameras. There is a gamma counter for non-imaging purposes and shared access to a lead shielded en-suite therapy room on the oncology ward for high activity treatment of patients with radiopharmaceuticals.

The department can offer highly specialised services which generates income from other hospitals in the region. Research and development is also undertaken at local, national and international level

Main duties of the job

·      To lead and be accountable for ensuring the timely, efficient and courteous provision of Nuclear Medicine Therapy services.

·    Coordination of all therapy work involving liaison with ward managers, medical staff, allied health professionals, medical physics and administrative staff as well as patients and referring clinicians. Take responsibility for the day to day running of the service.

R    To be the lead technologist in administering a wide range of therapies including I131 and Ra223 (shared with physics and medical staff) and Lu177 Dotatate and Lu177 PSMA (from second course onwards). This includes the provision of an accompanying explanation and aftercare instructions in conjunction with medical physics.To run shared clinics for new patients with consultant medical staff to become familiar with the patients that will be attending for treatments. 

·        To be responsible for dealing with enquiries related to therapies from patients, carers, and clinicians. To co-ordinate patient follow-up after therapy, in conjunction with consultant medical staff and medical secretaries, including the provision of follow-up clinics by phone/video.

·   To be the link practitioner, coordinating communication between patients having therapy, their carers, and primary carers with consultant medical staff. Working closely with other service leads.

·        To attend MDT meetings which are relevant to the role.
