An opportunity has arisen at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist within the Women’s and Children’s Care Group with special interests to match with the needs of the department.  This post will be appointed on the national contract terms and conditions.

 The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate students from the Plymouth University Peninsula School of Medicine and postgraduates in the clinical situation.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to appoint a locum consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology who is a motivated and experienced clinician, passionate about improving the care provided in Obstetrics and Gynaecology services at University Hospitals Plymouth. This post is primarily to cover maternity leave for a fixed term of one year but with opportunities for extension. The main duties of this role involve general Gynaecology and Antenatal clinics with specialist outpatient services and operating lists dependent on the skills of the successful applicant. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the acute provision of care in gynaecology and obstetrics as duty consultant during normal working hours and also as non-resident on-call consultant overnight. There are separate duty rotas for obstetrics and gynaecology, the successful candidate may contribute to either or both of these areas of acute service provision depending on their specialist skills. The successful candidate should have excellent team-working skills and work to a high professional standard in order to work effectively within a multi-professional team. They will be expected to deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with the local clinical team and regional commissioners. All specialist skills will be considered, and ongoing professional development will be actively supported within this role.
