Job overview

To provide a clerical service to Brent Ward and assist the nursing staff in the reception of patients and visitors to the ward.

To work in collaboration with staff in other areas of the service line and Trust to facilitate a streamlined service for the patient.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Key Dimensions:

·         To provide and deliver a high standard of clerical service to the unit using a varied range of work procedures, many of which are non-routine, requiring a level of theoretical knowledge.

·         Keep SALUS current

·         Admit and discharge patients

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To deal with enquires, including telephone enquiries in conjunction with and under the direction to the nursing staff.

Receive patients, relatives and visitors to the ward.

Enter admissions, transfers  and discharges on IPM/SALUS, including ward and department transfers, updating patient information where necessary .

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE grades A-C in Maths and English or equivalent demonstrable experience
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ in administration

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous clerical demonstrable experience
  • Demonstrate ability to use all main software packages
Desirable criteria
  • Previous demonstrable experience in a large clinical setting
  • Proven knowledge of patient management systems
