Job overview

This post is for a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with an interest in sarcoma and lower limb reconstruction surgery.  He/She/They will be responsible for the delivery and development of high-quality Plastic Surgical care including their area of expertise, which must encompass head and neck and lower limb reconstruction. The post holder will also be expected to participate in the normal duties relating to the administration of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. These duties will include teaching, continuing medical education and audit/clinical governance.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible to the Service Line Director and the Medical Director of the Trust and will be expected to maintain and improve Patients’ Charter standards where appropriate.

The post holder is required to work flexibly to ensure that service requirements are provided and to ensure that both the Service aims and objectives are met.

The job plan will be a 10 PA contract which will include dedicated SPA time. There is potential for the post to increase to 12 PAs with optional DCC sessions.  This will cover elective care including clinics and operating and plastic surgery trauma on call cover.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Shared responsibility for the provision of a high quality sarcoma   and lower limb reconstruction service supporting the Major Trauma Centre in University Hospital Plymouth.
  • Providing on call cover for plastic surgery trauma patients
  • Supporting  and educating trainees and medical students in the department 
  • Working as part of multidisciplinary teams to promote safe, high quality care for our patients.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via o CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview o CESR or o European Community Rights
Desirable criteria
  • • Dedicated period of fully assessed post-graduate training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Evidence of proficient microsurgical skills through supervised training
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience and /or subspeciality training in sarcoma and/or microsurgery
