We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Neurology Research Nurse/Research Practitioner to join our expanding research team.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge clinical research studies focused on neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, epilepsy, dementia, stroke, and other neurological disorders.
You will work closely with Principal Investigators, multidisciplinary clinical teams, and sponsors, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality research studies and ensuring participants receive exceptional care throughout their research journey.

The University Hospitals Plymouth Research & Development department is based at Plymouth Science Park across two buildings. Potential candidates need to be aware that there are distances they will need to be able to cover between the buildings and the different research clinics based in the main hospital site.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

- Coordinate and manage a portfolio of neurology research studies in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), study protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify, screen, recruit, and consent potential study participants.
- Conduct clinical assessments, neurological observations, and study-specific procedures.
- Collect, process, and accurately document clinical and research data.
- Administer investigational medicinal products and monitor participant safety.
- Act as the primary point of contact for study participants throughout their involvement in research studies.
- Collaborate with neurologists, allied health professionals, and external research partners.
- Maintain study files, databases, and regulatory documentation.
- Support study monitoring visits, audits, and inspections.
- Promote research awareness and facilitate recruitment across neurology services.

PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Leadership
- Have an understanding of the clinical research team work-plan and contribute to its achievement.
- Manage research performance and study timelines of relevant studies.
- Collaborate with other Trusts and organisations within the region to improve research delivery.
- Keep up to date with research management issues through liaison with other Research Specialists /Team leaders and link with national networks.
- Provide relevant supervision and mentorship to members of staff and students.
- Take responsibility for own health, safety and security and promote the health, safety and security of the wider team.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical and research policies, procedures and SOPs.
- Facilitate and maintain effective communication within the research team and between the multidisciplinary clinical team.
- Assist in the delivery of education and training regarding research for the wider Multidisciplinary Team and act as an ambassador for research.
- Promote a blame free culture in reporting incidents and where appropriate support local investigation of incidents. .

- Registered Nurse or Healthcare Professional, currently registered with UK regulatory body NMC/HPC

- Research Training (e.g. GCP, degree module, informed consent)
Knowledge

- Pertinent clinical skills
- Computer literacy including proven ability to work with databases.
- Proven ability to organise and prioritise own workload and work to tight deadlines.
- Understand the significance of research and use of validated results to improve practice
- Demonstrable experience with dealing with confidential patient information
- Proven ability to communicate complex information to patients/carers/ members of MDT
- Broad and recent clinical demonstrable experience relevant to the post

- Knowledge of the Research Governance Framework and Good Clinical Practice Guidelines.
- Knowledge of clinical trials & research methodologies.
- Proven record of meeting targets
- Demonstrable experience of clinical research within the NHS or commercial setting
- Understanding of data collection and data entry for clinical trials.
