Safeguarding Adult’s Specialist Advisor

An exciting opportunity to join our dynamic Safeguarding Team as a Safeguarding Adults Advisor. .
Part of a re-designed service, the successful applicant will working alongside our partners in the wider Safeguarding and Patient-Protection team. Bringing an increased level of visibility.
The post holder will provide knowledge, advice and clinical expertise to all staff in all areas of safeguarding for University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP), working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team and partner agencies to ensure all those who come into contact with UHP services are safeguarded and their welfare is promoted.
The successful applicant will become an expert resource on safeguarding issues providing accessible, accurate and relevant information to staff within the Trust.
They will work with the Senior Safeguarding Nurse to implement safeguarding services within the Trust and assist with safeguarding training for staff; to ensure they are adequately trained and supported.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

With the support of senior safeguarding professionals provide professional advice and support regarding safeguarding to all at UHPNT.
To work closely with multi-agency professionals from the community to safeguard patients, the public, staff and the organisation.
To help to ensure that supervision systems are robust, monitored and evaluated.
To prepare chronologies for Trust and multi-agency partners and participate in investigations as needed.
To attend case conferences and strategy meetings supporting staff required to attend.
Ensure accurate and informative clinical safeguarding records are maintained and monitored through audit.
With the support of the Named Safeguarding Professionals contribute to the delivery of the Safeguarding Training Strategy.
Work unsupervised using own judgement and decision-making skills on day-to-day operational and strategic issues.
To visit wards and other departments collecting information on admission and discharge of patients and provide an assessment of ongoing care needs, advising community staff.

To provide advice and support to staff across all disciplines in relation to legislation, policy, local inter-agency structures and procedures for safeguarding.
To contribute, as required, to individual case discussions and as requested, to attend safeguarding meetings.
To deliver training packages relating to safeguarding to staff in line with the training needs analysis and in accordance with legislation, national policies and guidance and also with reference to local policies and procedures.
To develop and maintain links with senior colleagues in partner agencies and local networks.
To initiate, promote and maintain relationships with partner agencies and community groups to ensure inter-agency working together.
To undertake safeguarding audits and contribute to governance processes.
To deputise for the Senior Safeguarding Nurse Specialist.
To provide relevant information to agencies in line with information governance legislation to enable the safeguarding of adults and others at risk.
To attend strategy meetings, case conferences, MARAC meetings and other safeguarding meetings as required.
To support wards and departments and act as advisor and link to multi-agency partners as needed.
To keep up to date with government and national research findings and developments.
The post holder will be expected to champion and raise awareness of safeguarding issues at all levels.
To overcome staff and public barriers to understanding around the areas of safeguarding including the assessment of mental capacity.
To promote the safeguarding of vulnerable adults, children and domestic abuse victims within the organisation.
To maintain an awareness of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty/Liberty Protection Safeguards.
To actively disseminate expertise through publications, conference presentations and participation in local and national groups relevant to the safeguarding agenda.
To implement or review the processes in place within the organisation for safeguarding and make recommendations for improvements.
To take appropriate action to ensure that decisions and recommendations in individual cases are followed through.
