Pain Consultant with Anaesthetics

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

We are looking for a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Pain to join our team here at Torbay Hospital.

Your time will be split approximately equally between pain medicine and anaesthetics.

You will contribute to the delivery of a quality Consultant led service in pain medicine and general anaesthesia. Your general anaesthesia commitment will include elective and on call services.

We are an innovative unit and looking for someone to join us to help take forward our pain service.

The Chronic Pain Team consists of 4 consultants and one GP wsi and is part of the Anaesthetic Department. Pain consultants work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver general outpatient chronic pain clinics, interventional pain lists and support to the inpatient pain service.

Inpatient pain services are primarily consultant and nurse delivered. There are 3 inpatient pain nurses providing a weekday service.  There is a weekly inpatient consultant session.

There is close liaison between the inpatient and outpatient teams.  Weekend support is provided by the general anaesthetic emergency team.

Pain clinics operate from Torbay and peripheral hospitals. We also work closely with the Royal Devon University Hospital

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality consultant delivered care to patients including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are provided to all patients attending the hospital

Weekly timetable/Job plan

The clinical aspect of the job is expected to be split to deliver equal amounts of Chronic Pain and General Anaesthetics

The current anaesthetic on call rota is 1:20.  Additional PAs may be available to reflect extended working days and weekend working.
