We are seeking to recruit a passionate and enthusiastic Nursery Nurse Room Leader to lead a room in our highly valued nursery. Please note this will be temporary role to cover maternity leave for 12 months.
We are looking for a special person who is great fun, has a creative imagination, doesn't mind getting messy, and can answer all questions put to them by curious little minds! You must be able to sing (tunefully or not) and enjoy telling stories that come alive.
As a room leader, you will be required to have proven experience of leading a team and working as a role model in your practice for other team members to follow, setting an outstanding example of exemplary practice. More importantly, you must be ready to become part of our friendly team and share the same vision to be the best that we can be in caring for and educating our next generation of excited and enthusiastic learners.
Main duties of the job
You will work within a 54 place Day Nursery, caring for children from 3 months to 5 years. The post holder will be required to have a wealth of experience of children ranging from babies to preschool. This post will be based predominantly within the toddler room (2-3 years), but you will be required to work with all age ranges as and when needed, and may be moved to different rooms to meet the requirements of the service. It will be advantageous to have previous experience of working within all ages of early years, including babies.
You will have a sound knowledge of the EYFS, have effective communication skills and be able to work collaboratively in a large team. You should have an excellent knowledge of child development, safeguarding and be able to demonstrate a high level of practice and knowledge with children.
The ideal candidate will have an outstanding knowledge of the EYFS and be able to provide exemplary care and education to children and babies, whilst working as part of an outstanding team.
Working for our organisation
Rainbow Day Nursery, based at Torbay Hospital, is the workplace nursery for Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be part of a large team, the nursery team are highly valued and have opportunities to progress and undertake regular training.
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, the working shifts will vary between 6.45am and 6.00pm, 7.5 hours each day plus a 1 hour unpaid lunch break.

- Ensure the children and parents are welcomed into a warm and happy environment, creating a stimulating and pleasant atmosphere
- To attend staff meeting (outside of normal hours) and room meetings and contribute in an appropriate manner
- To be able to work efficiently, independently and also as part of a team
- To support all staff and engage positive and open communication in a good staff team

Essential criteria

- Essential Food Hygiene Certificate
Knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- In depth knowledge of holistic needs of 0-5 years olds
- Work in partnership with parents
- To plan and provide with colleagues a range of stimulating activities that underpin Ofsted and Early Years Foundation Stage regulations
- Safeguarding Children procedures
- Proven relevant experience of working within the Early Years and with 0-5 year olds.
Desirable criteria
- Current childcare legislation and Ofsted standards
- Previous experience of supervising others
