Lead Pharmacist Clinical Trials

Job overview

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and suitably experienced pharmacist to lead and further develop the pharmacy services for clinical trials within the Trust.

 

Working closely with the Research and Development Department you will manage all the clinical trials processes within the pharmacy to support our high quality and innovative research programme across a number of clinical specialities, which will ultimately result in improved patient care.

 

You will be responsible for the co-ordination and day to day management of commercial and non-commercially sponsored clinical trials and will work closely with all members of the pharmacy team, as well as members of the research teams, medical and nursing staff, and trial co-ordinators.

 

If you have a strong background in clinical trials this is a great opportunity for you to apply and develop your clinical knowledge and leadership skills, focussing on research and development, and working within a friendly and supportive pharmacy team. There is also the opportunity to participate in clinical pharmacy services or aseptic pharmacy services within the department.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will lead and coordinate the pharmaceutical aspects of clinical trials within the Trust.

 

You will be responsible for:

 

  •  Ensuring that the Pharmacy Clinical Trials department provides safe and efficient services in accordance with relevant UK and EU legislation, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and all other relevant medicines regulations and ethical requirements.
  • Managing and leading in the further development of the clinical trials services provided from within pharmacy to all users across the Trust.
  • Liaising and collaborating with a wide range of staff to ensure the smooth set-up, delivery and close-down of all research projects within the Trust.
  • Providing clinical pharmacy or aseptic pharmacy services for designated wards or departments within the Trust

 

Working for our organisation

The Pharmacy Clinical Trials team consists of specialist pharmacist and specialist pharmacy technicians who are dedicated to the management of the pharmaceutical aspects of clinical trials within the Trust. The team works closely with research and development (R&D) staff, clinical trials sponsors, clinicians, nurses, pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Masters Degree (or equivalent) in Pharmacy
  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent relevant experience
Desirable criteria
  • Management Training
  • Good Clinical Practice Training

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge and understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks and standards relating to Clinical Trials
  • Specialised knowledge /experience of working as a pharmacist in a clinical trials setting
  • Substantial proven relevant experience as a hospital pharmacist.
  • Experience in production of guidelines and protocols
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Good Manufacturing Practice
  • Understanding of clinical governance issues relevant to clinical pharmacy
  • Experience of working with commercial trials
