Job overview
The in-patient physiotherapy team are recruiting to a band 4 physiotherapy assistant within the trauma and orthopaedic speciality. We are looking for an enthusiastic new member of the team to work alongside Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in delivering a high standard of rehabilitation to patients during their ward based stay.
This post holder will have an Assistant practitioner qualification in a relevant field or be supported to undertake one as appropriate.

Main duties of the job
- To work along side all members of the team, assessing patients, delivering treatment plans and discharge planning. The role involves measuring and providing equipment, participating in SAFER meeting, liaising with family and participating on home visits.
- You will hold your own non complex case load, attend SAFER meetings, liaise with the wider MDT, delegate to Band 3 staff, support students and new members of staff when joining the trust, complete supervision , peer reviews and appropriate training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner your work will be delegated to you by a registered practitioner. A registered practitioner will therefore retain overall responsibility for the care and treatment of patients on your caseload. You are accountable for accepting a delegated task and once accepted, you are accountable for your actions and decisions. Therefore, you must be competent and confident in what you are being asked to do and be sure that it is appropriate for your role, level of practice and personal capability. Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Foundation Degree Assistant Practitioner qualification in relevant field
- Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio
Knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in the core clinical areas of physiotherapy within an NHS setting – areas to include a range of respiratory, musculoskeletal, acute inpatient and elderly care, trauma and orthopaedics, community or intermediate care, neurological conditions
- Experience of working as part of a Physiotherapy or multidisciplinary team
- Presentation Skills
- Experience of decision making, time management and maintaining interpersonal working relationships
- Competent IT skills and Presentation Skills
- Knowledge of the relevant NSFs and clinical guidelines
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate experience in a physiotherapy related field
- Previous physiotherapy experience working within the NHS as a student or volunteer
