Job overview

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated, dynamic Physiotherapist who can demonstrate commitment to the provision of high-quality person-centred care.

Participate in the Physiotherapy rotational scheme,  working across Torbay and South Devon Healthcare Trust sites in a range of ward settings, out-patient departments, intermediate care settings,  patients own homes and community . Band 5s have support of a senior mentor,  regular supervision and preceptorship scheme. Career and personal development across all clinical areas is encouraged. 

Provide a high standard of physiotherapy service to general musculoskeletal out-patients, in and outpatient trauma and orthopaedics, medical and surgical, neurology, elderly and intermediate care. Community rehabilitation and specialist rehabilitation services. Some exposure to specialist  inpatient services in ICU and CCU.

Deputise for more senior staff in their absence, taking responsibility for allocating and organising the work of physiotherapy assistant staff to meet priorities on a daily basis.

We are located in a beautiful part of Devon with easy access to coastal and moorland areas. Offers an excellent opportunity for work/life balance, but would provide a challenge for non-drivers to access all rotations due to the remoteness of some locations. in order to fulfil this role, employees should have full UK driving licence,  and access to a car or appropriate transport as public transport options are restricted. 

Main duties of the job

  • Daily interventions with clients in a variety of settings including assessment, intervention and discharge planning. Working alongside therapy colleagues and MDT.  
  • Use of IT systems within the Trust for recording of data and interventions
  • Core skills in communication, health and safety, risk assessment, personal and people and service development, engagement in peer review and achievement reviews, responsibility for health and wellbeing, quality and professional practice.
  • Maintain and uphold professional standards of Physiotherapy practice within Trust and HCPC guidelines

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Be able to work unsupervised, delegate appropriately and show initiative and competence in information gathering, assessment and treatment & discharge planning . To demonstrate professional attitude and conduct in own working practices and be able to recognise the impact of these on others. 

Eligibility requirements:

Degree in physiotherapy

State registration – current HCPC certificate.

A clean and valid UK full driving licence due to requirement to cover rotation both within the acute and community.

Practical Physiotherapy experience in the core clinical areas of physiotherapy within an NHS setting, this can either be as a due to qualify third year student on placement or an experienced individual as a Physiotherapist or Physiotherapy Technician.

  • Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registered
  • Evidence of CPD linked to practice
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of hands on experience in the core clinical areas in a physiotherapy role within an NHS setting, as a student Physiotherapist. Physiotherapy support worker or in a qualified role
  • Competent IT skills
  • Evidence given to demonstrate knowledge of the relevant NSFs, NICE and clinical guidelines used within the NHS setting
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of further training and development

Other specific skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience of decision making, time management and maintaining interpersonal working relationships
  • Ability to manage own time/ workload independently or with guidance
  • Ability and availability to contribute to 7 day working rotas and respiratory on-call rota
  • Evidence of good communication skills, team working and delegation
  • Clean valid UK full driving licence and access to car or suitable transport for this role
