IBD Clinical Biologic Coordinator

NHS AfC: Band 4

Job overview

This is a new role and an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual with excellent computer, administrative and communication skills to join the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) team to coordinate and support the prescribing process for long term biologic or systemic drugs. We are looking for an individual who works well as a team member yet can use their own initiative as needed and who has a high level of attention to detail.

The IBD clinical biologic coordinator will function at a higher competency level than that of other Healthcare Support Workers with responsibility for actively participating as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team within the ward/dept, to provide a seamless service to patients with proximal supervision from a registered nurse/practitioner.

This post is advertised at 25hrs a week for 2 years but can accommodate other variations, such as 30hrs a week for 20 months or 37.5hrs a week for 15 months. Please get in touch for more information.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide general and specialist information to a variety of patients with IBD.
  • To develop therapeutic relationships with patients.
  • Contribute to maintaining and organising the day to day running of the IBD service, dealing with patient enquiries, requests, referrals and results with oversight from IBD specialist nurses.
  • Assist in the monitoring of blood results for monitoring various treatment therapies used in IBD, in collaboration with and/or supervision of the nurse specialist team.
  • Develop and maintain up to date knowledge of IBD medications. To be able to discuss these with patients and be port of call regarding commencement and management of biologic/immunosuppressive medications.
  • To support other members of the IBD team in the care and management of patients.
