The Unit manager will provide leadership to nursing staff and manage all available resources for the provision of care to patients and visitors to the Out-Patient Department.

The Unit manager will provide specialist clinical advice regarding the service and treatment of Outpatients and their families, which is based on the latest available evidence of best practice.

The Unit manager will adopt a highly visible and accessible approach for patients, their carer/relatives and staff and their role will be clinically focused to support the department. He/she will lead by example and empower staff in their personal and professional development to undertake a greater range of clinical skills to modernise and improve patient care, including updates of essential training.

Main duties of the job

• Acting as a role model, employ professional behaviour that encourages and coaches their team members to challenge their current competencies, whilst seeking opportunities to expand their roles. This includes the promotion of a culture of appraisals, and personal development whilst setting clear smart objectives to meet the needs of the individual, clinical area and organisation

•         Find solutions to problems and be able to demonstrate a positive approach to new challenges, encouraging others to do the same

•         Understand what people need to be adaptable and responsive to provide a service which is tailored to meet the needs of every individual

•         Create an environment where differences are valued, encouraged and supported

•         Provide a high quality, person –centred service which complies with relevant legislation and standards

•         Be honest and learn from mistakes. Create a ‘no blame’ culture where people feel able to share and learn from experiences, together

•         Work as part of the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating effective communication

•         Build rapport and trust with those you work with, ensuring that people are supported as well as they can be
