Job overview

Are you an experienced Healthcare Support Worker looking for a rewarding role in women's health?

We are seeking a compassionate, organised, and motivated Healthcare Support Worker to join our small, friendly team at Torbay Pregnancy Advisory Service (ToPAS), based at Castle Circus Health Centre.

This is a vital role supporting both nursing and medical staff in delivering high-quality care to patients attending our specialist clinics.

Main duties of the job

  • Support and assist medical and nursing staff during clinics, including technical procedures and investigations

  • Chaperone patients during intimate procedures with sensitivity and professionalism

  • Perform venepuncture and process swabs and samples

  • Prepare and clean clinical rooms before and after patient examinations

  • Support patients during their visit, showing awareness of their emotional, social, and physical needs

  • Reinforce professional advice and offer reassurance to patients, especially those distressed or undergoing medical investigations

  • Maintain accurate electronic patient records, including observations and test results

  • Manage clinic stock levels, including patient information materials and paperwork

  • Collect equipment and deliver samples to the laboratory, ensuring timely handover to couriers when required

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to service development

  • Follow health and safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe environment

  • Use IT systems for administrative duties and complete mandatory online training

  • Report any patient concerns to registered nurses or medical staff

  • Take responsibility for equipment care and report faults or shortages

What We’re Looking For:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (desirable)

  • Competency in venepuncture (or willingness to train)

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to maintain patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times

  • Comfortable working in a sensitive clinical environment

  • Basic IT skills, including data entry and online training platforms

  • Team player with a flexible and proactive approach
