An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapist to join the Musculoskeletal Outpatient Physiotherapy team working for Dorset HealthCare University NHS Trust. At work –The Outpatient Physio team have strong links to the local community in the area, linking with local leisure services and community groups. Within Dorset HealthCare Trust, we work closely with the MSK Orthopaedic Interface service (known as Dorset MSK) and our local hospitals. Through these links, we can further your experience to expand your knowledge and skills and provide career development opportunities. As a University Health Trust we make the most of our links to Bournemouth University, Winchester University and the AECC and are expanding our involvement in research projects. You should be a committed, dynamic, motivated professional having good organisational skills, the ability to prioritise your work and excellent communication skills.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities will be

  • To work autonomously to provide skilled assessment and treatment/management for a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions including those with complex needs. Referrals are received from GP, Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, MIU/A+E, self-referral and other NHS colleagues. When appropriate onward referral to other services may be required.
  •  To support the development of students and other colleagues. This will include being a student educator and being involved in In-house training. 
  • To assist the Team Lead in the management of the Physiotherapy Service i.e triage, service development

  • Excellent at communicating, sometimes within a complex situation and with patients with complex needs. 
  • Able to work within a team and independently.
  • Able to work flexibly and possibly within challenging situations
  • Forward thinking and positive so able to find solutions to problems

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of.  Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • • Bsc Hons/Masters in Physiotherapy
  • • NHS Experience in Msk physiotherapy
  • • Evidence of relevant post graduate training in Musculoskeletal physiotherapy in the UK/NHS
  • • Evidence to show competency in musculoskeletal physiotherapy enabling the post holder to autonomously assess, diagnose and treat own caseload.
  • • Evidence of knowledge of current best practice in musculoskeletal physiotherapy to inform clinical decision making.

Job Specific Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Evidence of wide and varied experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy assessment and treatment within the NHS
  • • Ability to work independently and responsibly as an autonomous practitioner without direct supervision
  • • Ability to initiate and lead on service improvements
  • • Good assessment and treatment skills in musculoskeletal physiotherapy setting.
  • • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Managerial/supervisory experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience of supervising others i.e., less experienced staff and students.
  • • Ability to be well organized and manage time effectively to manage a demanding workload to agreed timescales.
  • • Experience of providing teaching for other physiotherapy colleagues and students

Excellent Communication

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to communicate effectively despite potential barriers to communication.
  • • Excellent communication skills with a wide variety of people
